Creating a streamlined 1G1R WiiWare directory requires a systematic approach using database management tools like , RomCenter , or Simple ROMX . Step 1: Sourcing Verified DAT Files
Point the tool to your directory of files. The software will automatically rename the clean files to match official naming conventions and move all regional duplicates to a backup folder, leaving you with a perfect 1G1R set. Looking Ahead to Part 2 1G1R - Redump - Nintendo - Wii WiiWare -Part 1-
The raw, uncompressed 1:1 copy of the physical disc. This is the format preserved by Redump. They are large because they include "garbage data" used by Nintendo to fill out the physical sectors of the disc. Retail Discs
The story of "Part 1" begins not with the games themselves, but with the cleanup. In the early days, the WiiWare servers were a wild west of duplicates. You’d have the same puzzle game appearing four times—once for North America, once for Japan, and two different versions for Europe. To a collector, this was clutter; to a preservationist, it was a puzzle.
The “Part 1” indicates that the full 1G1R WiiWare set is split into multiple archives (likely due to file size limits on sharing platforms or to ease download management). Highest priority for English speakers due to standard
Retained only if a game was exclusive to Japan, or if the Japanese version features significant content left out of Western localizations.
Because Redump sets contain every revision (v1.0, v1.1, v1.2) and region (USA, JAP, PAL, Korea, etc.), a raw download from a source like the "Wii Vault" (which synchronizes nightly with Redump) will contain thousands of files, many of which represent the same underlying software.

The digital preservation of video game history has evolved from a casual hobby into a sophisticated, highly disciplined science. Among the various initiatives driving this movement, the "1G1R" (One Game, One ROM) philosophy and the rigorous scanning standards of the Redump organization stand as the gold standard for collectors and archivers alike. When these preservation methodologies intersect with the Nintendo Wii—specifically its groundbreaking but now defunct digital storefront, the Wii Shop Channel—the result is a complex, fascinating archiving project.
On January 30, 2019, after more than twelve years of operation, Nintendo officially terminated the Wii Shop Channel. The ability to purchase Wii Points was removed in March 2018, and the final shutdown meant users could no longer acquire new WiiWare or Virtual Console games.
